"VISIONS OF PEACE – 2004"

CHILDREN’S PEACE ART

The "Visions of Peace" exhibit is to bring awareness of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. This theme provides a vast variety of interpretation for children to envision the world through gratitude for what they celebrate in their lives and empowers them to create a tomorrow of their dreams.

TIME: 1-4 P.M.



CURATORS: Beth Wyrybkowski and Marilyn Zimmerman

The art will be by students from metropolitan area schools using a diversity of media.

Swords into Plowshares Peace Center and Gallery is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Schools and other group visits can be arranged by calling (313) 963-7575 or by sending a fax to (313) 963-2569. This exhibit will be here until July 24, 2004.

 

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child include:

    • The Right to affection, love and understanding
    • The Right to adequate nutrition
    • The Right to medical care
    • The Right to free education
    • The Right to recreation
    • The Right to a name and a nationality
    • The Right to special care if handicapped
    • The Right to be among the first to receive relief in times of disaster
    • The Right to be a useful member of society and to develop individual abilities
    • The Right to be brought up in a spirit of peace and universal brotherhood
    • The Right to enjoy these rights regardless of race, color, sex, religion, national or social origin
